  • Susan Langford speaks at the Bolder and Wiser Conference 2009

Watch the talk Susan gave at this conference organised by Audiences London on UK Older People's Day 09.

In "Who is teaching? Who is learning?", Susan Langford spoke about the benefits, challenges and inspiration of working in the arts with older people.

  • Magic Me participants on Sunrise Radio

On Saturday 8th August 2009, two Magic Me participants were interviewed by Sunrise Radio to discuss the impact and importance of intergenerational projects. Winnie Roach and Marium Uddin had collaborated together on the all women project Utopia, according to me and offered their accounts of what it was like to work together.

Utopia, according to me was the sixth collaborative project between Magic Me, Mulberry School for Girls and The Women's Library, throughout which a mixed group of women endeavoured to express what a perfect world might be like, through images and words.

Using The Women's Library collections as inspiration, the group decided to translate the images they had created into postcards to inspire others to work towards a better world. To inform this process the group sent out hundreds of postcards around the world asking others to share their visions of utopia. With the responses the group got, an eclectic installation was created and hung in the Libary's Reading Room for one month.

  • Our Generations: Report on a three year programme of intergenerational arts projects in Tower Hamlets, East London (April 2006- June 2009) by Kathryn Gilfoy and Caoimhe McAvinchey:

"The report is an interesting and lively resource for professionals interested in the fields of intergenerational work and community arts, as well as social cohesion and community capacity building," says Programme Manager Kathryn Gilfoy. "It gives a fascinating insight into this unique programme, which provided Magic Me with the opportunity to explore new models of intergenerational work and examine existing ones in depth."

The report provides an overview of the programme followed by the findings of an independent evaluator, Dr Caoimhe McAvinchey, of Goldsmiths, University of London, who has assessed the programme throughout. She highlights the imperative to refine and develop new intergenerational practices to meet the needs of an ageing population and changing demographics.

Working with three artists, over four months, the participants (aged between 15 and 84) explored their own sense of their voices, using women's voices from diaries in The Women's Library resources as an additional stimulus.
